Of course you do. Alongside traditional marketing material such as business cards, brochures and word-of-mouth which are not to be dismissed mind you, being found on Google for search terms relating to your product or service has become paramount to increased business.
Search Engine Optimisation (or SEO) is an art. A mysterious one at that. It’s competitive nature and the need to keep up to date with the ever-shifting Google algorithm requires loads of time and a bucket load of knowledge in order to remain on top of the game.
There are loads of variables, but foremost is the competitiveness of your search terms. A less competitive term makes it much easier to appear high in the rankings. The more competitive, the lower down the ranking your likely to appear unless you enlist the help of a dedicated expert in the field.
Case in point.
River Recordings was an easy site to optimise for the required search term: ‘Recording Studio in Nowra’. Since there aren’t many recording studios in Nowra, there isn’t much competition, so getting them to appear on the first page of Google for that term was simple.
Riverband Accommodation however is a different story. Riverbend is located near Byron Bay. You may think the obvious term to target would be ‘Byron Bay Accommodation’ … but! You could imagine how many accommodation business are in Byron Bay competing for customers. Some of these businesses have big budgets to spend on Adwords (paid Google advertising).
In this case, to kick things off I advised Riverbend to target ‘Mullumbimby Accommodation’ instead then we would re-evaluate the situation down the track once the site has established it’s relationship with Google. If required, I could put them in touch with an expert.
Once you have a website up and running, with a contact page, no doubt it won’t be long before you’re being contacted by an ‘SEO Expert’.
Here’s how the email will read:
“Hey! I notice you’re appearing on page 3 of Google. We can fix that for you.”
“Your website is good content. We are optimisation company with good proper SEO professionality”
Please do not reply to those emails. If website traffic is an issue for you, get in touch and I’ll organise my guy Chris to call you. I have a day-job so I don’t have the time required to do SEO as well as it needs to be done.
I don’t recommend Chris lightly. He takes care of SEO for me for the company I work for. Said company relies on website traffic from around the globe to support it’s 120 strong global workforce. Chris has proven himself worthy of recommendation and his prices for small business are very reasonable.
